I Forgive You, Dad

I wrote this poem after a friend of mine suggested that instead of moaning about all the injustices of my father, I should write a letter to him, forgiving him, maybe not even sending it. I write poems about strong feelings so I decided to do that instead. Whilst writing it I didn't really believe my words and she wouldn't last 5 minutes in a room with him, but, years later it has made me realise that his life is completely separate from mine, that his world is his and I am not responsible for it. To those people who this poem speaks to, we know each other well and it is dedicated to you. By the way, poetry takes longer to digest, it's like Stephen Fry says, you should savour the words like you would savour the taste and texture of individual pieces of chocolate.

I forgive you, Dad

This fault finding eye I inherited,
it must be gouged.
These instructions from friends,
they must be followed.
That picture where I'm separate from you,
it must be painted,
and the illusion believed.
This clued-up comment that my task is hard,
must be defied.
That 'you' I keep referring to
must conveniently be forgotten.
My image of a Daddy,
it must be deformed.
My delicacies that you made your business
must be reclaimed;-

emasculated stamens.
These crimes of which you are culpable
must be reduced to mistakes.
These hands around my anger's neck
they must be loosened,
so it can simply fall.

Your demons and your fears,
my friends these long years,
arrive and follow you away.
I wave a hanky at their fuzzy tails.

This speech of parents and the past
it must be muted.
Those words of normalcy,
oh those words of normalcy,
they will be spoken after all -
my smile the brightening of a field.....

....... a field.........

I forgive you Dad,
I forgive you Baba,
for being unhappy.

Beneath my solid window sane

In undulating moans of pain

With no possible benefit of gain

'They' say worms don't cry

I wonder why

IF worms don't cry

How I heard the wail

Riding on the winded gale

I could have been mistaken

I suppose I could be faking

My mind has been more blurred

Stranger things have occurred

A clear sad pitch of such disturbing shrill

An unmistakable sound of resolve

Who else did the little one involve

Caught up in his unrequited dissolve

Writing Poetry - Use Poetry To Get Started With Other Genres of Writing

If you are struggling with getting your writing career going try writing some poetry first. Poetry can be an easy entry point into the world of writing no matter which genre you intend to write. Try writing a pair of lines whenever an idea strikes you. By writing down your thoughts into couplets you will have the basis of a longer work to be completed later on.

Poetry is also a good place for children to begin writing. There are no hard and fast rules so there is less apprehension. Capital letters, punctuation, and even spelling rules are suspended so that a child’s imagination can run wild. Children enjoy writing silly sentences and fantasy phrases, with alliteration having a mesmerizing effect.

Now, try to be child-like in your writing as you compose some short poems. Don’t think too much as you let your thoughts take form on the paper. Just let your thoughts flow. Put your poem away for a few days and then see if you can expand upon the ideas that you have written down.

Psychologists have long used poetry to get people to write about what is really bothering them. Use your poetry to see what you really want to write about for others to read and enjoy. Poetry can give you a feeling of freedom in your writing that no other form can possibly duplicate.
Think about a serious subject that you are planning to write an article or short story about.

Write it as a light-hearted poem and then come back to it at a later time. You will most likely see that you have written some profound thought in a simple form because you were more relaxed when you wrote in a sing song manner.
Give poetry a try and see how your other writing improves over time.

Sometimes in the winter,
Somewhere where I sat,
In the dark silent sorrowful night,
Tears rolled down dropping,
Helpless, hopeless and discouraged.

Somewhere in the winter,
In the cold lonely weather,
Future seems very badly blinking,
Failure seems everywhere,
Nobody understands the helpless.

Sometimes in the winter,
In the hopelessness of the night,
Without one near to say sorry,
I wept out all my strength.
Wept, till strength failed weeping.

Yet in the winter,
When delusion overwhelm the heart,
Lifting up the eyes to see,

The Big Difference - Life

What a life!
What a big difference,
The difference we make in time,
The one we make in this one coming,
In this world we take in nothing,
In which we make our living,
But then our time is moving,
And soon we end the living,
How many will notice our living?!

The living they lived for nothing,
The hope they give to none,
The promises they aborted for self,
And time they wish is all for them,
That they may live forever,
But soon they are never,
Their memory gone too soon than ever,
Dried as leaves that withers,
Buried as one doesn't matter.

The foolish wise one,
The glasses cover the merciless eyes,
The icon of ordeal and misfortune,
Hopeless to the hopeful they are,
With one mission they jointly serve,
Serve our dear nation, Mission to kill,
steal and destroy,
Saints and saviour they come to us,
Thief and devil they mean to us.

The currency strong room they looted,
They kill and destroy in good faith,
The say we should laugh when mourning,
We smile while suffering,
But they, yes, the do-gooders,
Pursuing their mission to letter,
No knowing the end comes later,
Nemeses soon catch up after,
They die the death of horror.

The night of horror passed,
As the mighty slept like coward,
The fall of the all-powerful and commander,
Buried like a useless foul,
Died of what he loves to eat,
The sound of joy everywhere,
For the death of the head of state,
Instead of mourning by the people,
But we must celebrate the final exist.

But what a difference!
A big difference I ever imagine!
When death took our hope,
The ever fair election of the people,
When we look to see a new dawn,
Yes, a new beginning of our smiles,
But death from the rock took him,
Death dashed our hope,
We are caught in the rope.

A mourning day for all of us,
Our choice taken from us,
Turning around to comfort ourselves,
Hoping in the hopeless situation,
Looking for change at all cost,
Not mind the great lost,
Together we move forward,
Never to look further backward,
Waiting together in hope for hope.
What a big difference! One died and all rejoice,
Another died and we mourn, Both heads of state,
One has been, one to be,
But the bad's memories cut off,
The other fixed and remembered,
What a big difference! Indeed,
a wide difference.

I Can Never Say Goodbye

This poem was written out of gratitude for the spiritually gifted entertainer, lyricist and humanitarian, Michael Jackson. His musical genius attempted to bridge so many boundaries that separate mankind. I am forever thankful for all he has done in the world. Missing You, Dad!

You're my dear dad who, due to a cancer blow,

I was not lucky to love and to get to know -

You're far away in heaven

Where I cannot see you again.

Your death left me virtually devastated.

Part of me died with you surely.

After all these years gone and hated

I still find your loss unbearable

My soccer games you didn't attend

Where I loved to compete and contend

You didn't take me hunting, fishing

Mountain climbing or outdoor camping

My school teachers you didn't meet

To learn how I did in the classes' elite

A spruce with me you didn't cut down

As our Christmas tree to be the best in town.

You were not there for me, your lad

When I was in trouble sick, or sad

You didn't walk with mom into the hall

On my wedding day to smile and stand tall.

I had to be the man

With no man around

To teach me how to be one.

No boy deserves to be bound

To such tough challenges' cruel gun.
